About me
Susan K. Urahn is president and CEO of The Pew Charitable Trusts, where she
leads the organization’s work to improve policy, inform the public, and invigorate
civic life. During her more than 30 years at Pew, Sue has held a series of senior
leadership roles spanning evaluation, state policy, education, economics, and
health care. She became president and CEO in 2020.
Under Sue’s leadership, Pew continues its longstanding work in policy research,
conservation, public health, and civic engagement. These include investments in
the Pew Research Center, a subsidiary of the Trusts, and in the organization’s
hometown of Philadelphia, where Pew provides research and analysis to help the
city’s leaders and citizens understand key issues, while also supporting the
cultural community and assisting vulnerable local residents.
Before joining Pew, Urahn worked in policy research and evaluation with the
Minnesota House of Representatives and the University of Minnesota. She holds
bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Minnesota and serves on
the board of Phare Bio.
