About me
Fernande Raine is an education innovator and founder of The History Co:Lab, a research and innovation lab that centers teens in learning redesign to enable civic thriving. Her path to this work runs through a series of apprenticeships in advancing democracy: she studied history while supporting democracy-building in post–Cold War Europe, earned a PhD in Cold War History at Yale, and learned systems-thinking at McKinsey and Innosight before spending a decade launching global Social Entrepreneurship programs at Ashoka. In 2018, she founded The History Co:Lab on the conviction that every young person deserves to grow into their full civic self, and that doing so requires rethinking how we teach history and the humanities as experiences in community. Today the Co:Lab's work spans school districts, museums, and regional networks across the country, with growing international reach.
